Medal (obverse) commemorating the Glasgow International Exhibition

This is the obverse of a white metal medal commemorating the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901. The medal was issued by S.M. Wylie & Co. of Glasgow.

The obverse bears the heraldic arms of Glasgow. It is inscribed 'SOUVENIR OF THE GLASGOW INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION 1901'. A hole for suspension has been made in the medal.

Edinburgh hosted international exhibitions in 1886 and 1907, and Glasgow in 1888 and 1901. These were large events where Scottish produce, from railway engineering to pottery, vied with international exhibits.
