This is the reverse of a bronze medal designed by the Flemish artist Quintin Metsys in 1491.

The reverse has a coat-of-arms superimposed on an archiepiscopal cross. The Latin inscription '+LEGATVS NATVS & TOTIUS REGNI SCOTIE PRIMAS 1491 +' translates as 'Legate by nature (of his office) and Primate of the whole Kingdom of Scotland 1491'.

In the Renaissance period, medals provided the opportunity to celebrate the individual, unrestricted by currency regulation. They were a popular reworking of Roman -style medallions.
