This is the obverse of a silver medal of the High School of Glasgow. The medal was made by D. C. Rait of Glasgow and was presented in 1839 to Allan Buchanan for elocution.

The inscription on the obverse reads 'High School of Glasgow, Session 1838-9, Junior Elocution'.
