Communion cups

This pair of silver communion cups from the Tolbooth Kirk in Edinburgh were made in 1643 by Nicoll Trotter, a goldsmith in Edinburgh. Another two cups of the same type, also for the Tobooth Kirk, were made by Edinburgh goldsmith Patrick Borthwick in 1642

The cups have a deep bowl and a hexagonal stem, on a cushion foot. Engraved inside the bowl is the inscription 'For the Church of the Northwest Parich of Edinburgh, 1643'. The cups are partially gilded.

The Northwest Parish became the Tolbooth Parish Church.
