Bracelet of gold

This gold penannular bracelet is one of three found at Stonehill Wood in Lanarkshire. It is a northern European type of bracelet, and was probably imported between 950 and 750 BC.

The bracelet was made of a solid lozenge-sectioned gold bar. It has two gold strips wound round the hoop. These served no practical function, but represented additional wealth.

This bracelet demonstrate contacts across the North Sea during the first millennium BC. It would have been valuable and prestigious possessions.
