Flintlock pistol

This pistol was made by Thomas Caddell in the middle of the 18th century.

The pistol has a stock of steel, a scroll butt and a snaphance lock mechanism which uses a flint to spark the gunpowder.

The pistol is typical of the sort of weapons outlawed by the various Disarming Acts which followed the unsuccessful Jacobite Risings of 1715 and 1745.
