Medal (obverse) commemorating the International Exhibition of Industry, Science and Art

This is the obverse of a white metal medal commemorating the International Exhibition of Industry, Science and Art held in Edinburgh in 1886. The medal was made by a Peter Westray.

The obverse bears an engraving of the exhibition site. The inscription reads 'INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF INDUSTRY, SCIENCE AND ART/ EDINBURGH 1886/ UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF HER MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY THE QUEEN'.

Edinburgh hosted international exhibitions in 1886 and 1907, and Glasgow in 1888 and 1901. These were large events where Scottish produce, from railway engineering to pottery, vied with international exhibits.
