Letter, associated with Lord Balmerino

This letter, dated 1746, is from Lady Margaret Balmerino to her sister announcing the death of her husband, Lord Balmerino and Lord Kilmarnock. Both men were executed for their part in the 1745 Jacobite uprising.

The letter was written in London on the 19th August, 1746.

The rebel lords, because of their rank, were allowed the privilege of beheading. Others convicted of treason were hanged, disembowelled and quartered.
