Document, address to 1st Marquis of Breadalbane

This illuminated address is to Gavin, 1st Marquis of Breadalbane from his tenants on the Breadalbane estates on the occasion of his being created a Knight of the Garter. Dated 1894, the address was produced by MacLure, MacDonald & Co of Glasgow.

The address, which congratulates the Marquis on receiving his title, is surrounded by painted scenes from the estates, including Taymouth Castle and a curling match in front of Kilchurn Castle. The document is made of card backed by watered silk.

The estates were broken up and sold in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The seat of the Earls (sometimes Marquises) of Breadalbane -Taymouth Castle, survives although it is no longer in Breadalbane ownership.
