Medal (reverse) commemorating the failure of the Jacobite invasion

This is the reverse of a bronze medal made by John Croker in London. The medal is dated 1708 and commemorates the failure of the Jacobite invasion of that year.

The reverse depicts Scotia (Scotland) on her knees, imploring Britannia for help.

In 1708 an attempted Jacobite invasion of Scotland, supported by France, was unable to land. The French fleet was driven from the Firth of Forth by British Navy Ships. It was seven years before the Jacobites tried again.
