This is the reverse of a bronze medal commemorating David Hume on his death in 1776.

The reverse is double struck.

Hume's radical philosophies were not understood in his own time. His 'Treatise of Human Nature' was ill-received by the press and it was not until the 20th century that it was fully appreciated.
