Medal (reverse), commemorating the Act of Grace of 1717

This is the reverse of a silver medal commemorating George I's Act of Grace of 1717, when he granted a free pardon to all (with a few exceptions) who had been involved in recent Jacobite Risings. The medal was made by John Croker.

Silver medal on the Act of Grace, by John Croker, 1717

Jacobite risings of 1708, 1715 and 1719 seriously threatened the fledgling United Kingdom, but failed. The final rising, of 1745-6, was led by Prince Charles Edward. It, too, failed and the Jacobite cause quickly became a political irrelevance.
