Telescope
Add to album

This brass telescope was made around 1860, probably by John Galletti (c. 1821-94), a scientific instrument maker based in Glasgow.

The hand-held refracting telescope has a wooden barrel and three draws. It is engraved on the first draw tube 'JOHN GALLETTI/ 24/ ARGYLL ARCADE/ GLASGOW'.

John Galletti's father Antoni originated from Milan. In the late 18th century he emigrated to Scotland and established a scientific instrument making business in Glasgow. John succeeded him in the business around 1850.
