Microscope

This brass microscope dates from around 1870. It was retailed by Gardner & Co., scientific instrument makers based in Glasgow.

The microscope is a compound type in brass and bronze. It is on an inclining pillar and flat two-toed tripod base. The pillar is signed 'GARDNER & Co./ Opticians to her Majesty/ 53 BUCHANAN ST/ GLASGOW'.

Gardner & Co. had premises at 21 Buchanan Street from 1839 to 1859, and at 53 Buchanan Street from 1860 to 1882.
