Drawing protractor

This brass drawing protractor was made around 1850, probably by Gardner & Co., scientific instrument makers based in Glasgow.

Engraved by the protractor's pivot is 'REGISTERED/ 8th May 1848/ No 1444' and 'GARDNER & CO. / 21 Buchanan St./GLASGOW'.

Gardner & Co. registered the design of this protractor with the Patent Office Design Registry in 1848. It would possibly have been used in an architect's office.
