Polymeter
Add to album

A polymeter is a device incorporating two or more instruments. This example was made by Wilhelm Lambrecht of Gottingen in Germany in the late 19th century. It is used to calculate the temperature at which there will be the onset of dew or fog.

The lower part of the device is a hair hygrometer with scales for measuring humidity and degrees Celsius. Above is a mercury thermometer showing the air temperature.

The difference between the values shown by the two meters is the temperature at which dew or fog will start.
