Needle cases and needles of bone

These two bone needle cases and three bone needles were found at Freswick Links in Caithness, at Vallay on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, at the Broch of Burrian on North Ronaldsay in Orkney, at Newstead in Roxburghshire and at Jarlshof on Shetland.

One needle case and one needle have carved ornament. All the objects are polished smooth.

Where textiles were produced and finished, sewing needles and cases were needed. These examples were found on native, Roman and Scandinavian sites in Scotland.
