Halberd blade

Bronze Age halberds were dagger-like objects mounted at right angles to the haft. They were prestigious weapons which functioned as symbols of power. This copper halberd blade was found on the Poltalloch estates in Argyll. It was imported from Ireland.

Halberd blade of copper or bronze, from the Poltalloch estates, Argyll, 2400 - 2000 BC

The links between Ireland and Scotland can be traced back to prehistoric times. Prestigious objects such as axes and halberds as well as metallurgical knowledge passed from Ireland to Scotland.
