Add to album

This ceramic pot was found at the native hillfort site of Traprain Law in East Lothian. It was made locally, sometime between 0 and 400 AD.

The handmade pot is undecorated.

For much of Scotland's history, pottery was made locally by non-specialists. While some fine wares were produced, most pots were simple and utilitarian. Pots such as this one contrasted with the fine, mass-produced wares introduced by the Romans.
