Piece of a leg from a marble statue

This piece of a leg from a statue carved from Mediterranean marble was found at the site of the Roman fort at Castlecary in Stirlingshire. It dates from between 142 and 180 AD.

Part of a marble statue leg, from Castlecary, Stirlingshire, 142 - 180 AD

The Roman army obtained supplies from three zones: locally (either by the army or natives), within the Roman province of Britannia, or further afield in the Roman empire. Roman objects of objects were very rare. Only three are known from Scotland.
