From near Gretna Green, Dumfriesshire
This flint arrowhead was found at Grainhead farm, near Gretna Green in Dumfriesshire. It dates from between 2500 and 1000 BC. Arrowheads of this nature could have been used for hunting or for fighting.
The arrowhead has barbs to help it stick in its target and a tang to attach it to the wooden arrowshaft. One barb is broken.
Barbed and tanged arrowheads are common in the Bronze Age.
