Craggan, made in Tiree, Inner Hebrides
Add to album

A craggan is a type of pot. This earthenware example, dated 1880, was made in Tiree in the Inner Hebrides.

The unglazed pot has 'Tiree - Recently made - May 1880' written in black on the side.

Pottery has been made in Scotland since prehistoric times. It was not until the middle of the 18th century that domestic pottery began to be mass-produced on an industrial scale.
