Golf club

This wooden golf club was made by Robert Forgan & Sons of St Andrews in Fife. The style of the club is known as a short 'spoon'.

One of a group of 17 golf-clubs - a long spoon made by R. Forgan and Sons, St Andrews, Fife, 18th or 19th century

The Dutch game of 'kolf' was similar to putting - played over short distances, usually on ice. The word 'golf' first appears in the Scots language in 1457, when the game was banned by Act of Parliament because it was interfering with archery practice.
