This silk handkerchief was issued in memory of William Ewart Gladstone in 1898.

The handkerchief is decorated with a portrait of Gladstone surrounded by details of his political career.

W.E. Gladstone (1803-98) was four times prime minister and owed his popularity in Scotland to the strength of Scottish Liberalism. His parents were Scottish.
