Architectural drawing, of boardroom at Heriot's Hospital, Edinburgh, signed R S Lorimer

This architectural drawing of the boardroom at Heriot's Hospital in Edinburgh is signed R S Lorimer, Feb 1888. The sketch is of proposed changes to the boardroom. Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929), was one of Scotland's foremost architects.

His inspiration came from studying traditional Scottish buildings and furnishings, and from the natural world. He depended on commissions and was asked to design new buildings and to remodel or restore old ones.

Lorimer also found appropriate furniture, fittings and textiles for his own and clients' houses. When nothing suitable could be bought, he had new pieces made to his own designs.
