A taper is a thin candle. This taper holder dates from the 18th century. It is made of brass.

The taper holder has a round drip pan and is mounted on an upright stem with an urn-shaped terminal and a round base with a handle and an openwork pattern of three hearts and three bars. Conical snuffers are attached to the drip pan by a chain.
