Snuffers

Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These iron snuffers are from Elgin in Moray. They date from the early 19th century.

The scissors-type snuffers have a shallow rectangular lidless box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off.
