Add to album

Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These iron snuffers are from Cabrach in Moray. They date from the early 19th century.

The scissors-type snuffers have an upright rectangular box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off. The snuffers have a pointed projection at the end and stand on three small feet with bulbous ends.
