Candleholder
Add to album

This hanging candleholder is from Blair Atholl in Perthshire. Made of iron, it dates from the 18th century.

The candleholder has a long upright bent forward at right angles near the top and pierced for a suspension loop (missing).

It is thought the candle was introduced to Britain by the Romans. From then until the second quarter of the 19th century, it remained the most widely used form of artificial light.
