Candleholder
Add to album

This iron candleholder is from Botriphnie in Banffshire. It dates from the 18th century.

The candleholder has an upright stand with two feet riveted at opposite sides of a round base.

It is thought the candle was introduced to Britain by the Romans. From then until the second quarter of the 19th century, it remained the most widely used form of artificial light.
