Dirk

The dirk was an all-purpose implement which evolved from the medieval dagger. This brass-mounted example dates from the 18th century.

Highland dirk with a brass-mounted handle, with a sheath, 18th century

This dirk is typical of the kind of weapon which was outlawed by the various Disarming Acts which followed the unsuccessful Jacobite Risings of 1715 and 1745.
