Fan

Double leaf of paper of folding fan with carved and pierced ivory sticks and guards. Concealed pivot.

Painted with a scene showing a medieval king and three knights with a page holding a shield with the arms of France. To the sides Jerusalem is written in Hebrew, and an Arabic inscription on the guards, as well as coats of arms.

It would appear to refer to the crusades and the retaking of the Holy Land but the date 1123 (see reverse) does not fit. Coats of arms unidentified at present.
