Fan

Folding fan with single paper leaf, carved and pierced ivory sticks and guards.

Leaf painted in gouache with central vignette of Aurora and Titmus. The background has small gold flowers set with mother of pearl flakes. Sticks stained blue, the upper part of the guards backed by red foil.

The painting is after an earlier Italian one. The sticks have a lower register design which is typically English.
