Fashion plate, from The Repository of Arts

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from a scrap album containing a selection of 19th century plates. The plate is from The Repository of Arts, a monthly magazine published in London by Rudolph Ackermann. Dated 1 November, 1811, it illustrates a carriage dress.

The dress and bonnet (on the side table) are both trimmed with fur. The woman's hair is arranged with elaborate curls on top of her head and loose ringlets around her face.

Ackermann's Repository was in publication from 1808 until 1829.The total number of plates produced in this time was in the region of 450 and a complete set is very rare.
