Fashion plate, from The Queen

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from The Queen, a monthly magazine published in London. The plate illustrates children's wear and is dated 13 December, 1879.

The two girls on the left are wearing party dresses. The remaining five children are dressed in outdoor wear.

The early French plates imported from Paris were not as big as the pages in The Queen - they had originally been produced for much smaller French magazines. However, by the late 1860s, the plates had increased in size and matched the pages in The Queen.
