Fashion plate, from La Mode Illustreé

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1894, the plate illustrates two evening dresses with trains. It is signed, 'L. Margelidon' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'.

The dresses are from, 'Mmes COUSSINET et L. PIRET. rue Richer. 43'.

Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Examples of her work could be seen in many of the in the top fashion magazines of the time, including Le Follet and Le Magasin des Desmoiselles.
