Fashion plate, from La Mode Illustreé

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1893, the plate illustrates two women in outdoor day wear and hats. It is signed, 'L. Margelidon' and 'I. Desgrange'.

The shoulder line of the fur-trimmed dress on the left is accentuated by the large puffed sleeves. The outfit is completed with a large brimmed hat trimmed with feathers.

Isabelle Desgrange (née Toudouze) was the daughter of Adèle Anaïs Toudouze, one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Isabelle also produced plates for Le Follet, Le Monde Elégant and The Queen.
