Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate illustrates fancy dress costumes for two women and a young girl. Dated 1879, it is signed, 'Réville' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The young girl is dressed as a swallow. She has swallows drawn on the hem of her dress and swallow wings created underneath her arms. She also has a swallow decorating her hair. Juvenile fancy balls were much in fashion at this time and some of the best dresses were suggested by illustrated books and fairy tales. Other costumes for girls included, Bo-peep, Cinderella, Ladybird, Red Riding-Hood, Tambourine Girl and Titania. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
