Fashion plate, from La Mode Illustreé

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dated 1865 and numbered 24, the plate illustrates an evening dress and a day dress.

The plate is signed 'Héloïse Leloir' at the bottom left and 'Bonnard' at the bottom right hand corner.

La Mode Illustreé first appeared in 1860 and was one of the most important fashion magazines of the second half of the nineteenth century. It was published every Sunday and had a circulation of approximately 20,000.
