Fashion plate, from Sylvia's Home Journal

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from Sylvia's Home Journal, a magazine published in London. The plate illustrates fur-trimmed day wear for two women and is headed, 'Supplement to Sylvia's Home Journal November 1888'.

The bottom of the plate is marked, 'The Newest French Fashions Expressly Modelled For Sylvia's Home Journal/Printed in Paris'.

Sylvia's Home Journal began life in 1865 as 'The Young Englishwoman'. It changed its name in 1877 and continued in circulation until 1895. Throughout this period it published good quality imported French plates.
