Fashion plate, from Le Petit Courrier des Dames

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Petit Courrier des Dames, a weekly fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate is entitled, 'Modes de Paris' and illustrates indoor and outdoor wear for women. It is dated 30 September, 1836.

The double triangular look, fashionable at the time, is evident in the outfit on the right. The sleeves and skirt are enormous, allowing the tightly-laced waist to appear even smaller.

Among the artists who contributed to this magazine were E Préval, A de Taverne, Laure Noël and Hervy. These artists all drew for a series of magazines which had their editorial offices at No 1 Boulevard des Italiens, Paris.
