Coin (reverse) of a James VIII pattern silver crown piece

This is the reverse of a James VIII pattern silver crown piece minted in 1828, possibly in London, from dies manufactured in 1716.

The reverse has a crowned shield of arms. The Latin inscription reads 'King of Scots, France and Ireland'.

Dies were prepared for what was intended to be a Scottish gold and silver coinage for James VIII, had his rebellion of 1715 succeeded. No contemporary strikings are known, but a number of pattern coins were struck from the original dies in 1828.
