Cabinet, containing metal type

This wooden cabinet consists of five drawers, each with 42 compartments, most of which contain metal type - rectangular pieces with raised letters or figures in reverse for printing purposes.

From the top down the drawers are marked, 'Augustine Pt', 'Anglo-Saxon 12 Pt', 'Anglo-Saxon 10 Pt', 'Old English Text 24 Pt', 'Spartan Light on 6Pt'.

In 19th century Edinburgh became a printing and publishing centre of international repute.
