Gas meter

This gas meter dates for three lights was made in the late 19th century by Alder and Mackay of Edinburgh. The design was registered in 1864.

The meter has a cast iron case, an enamelled register face and brass connectors. It is painted silver.

Edinburgh had a considerable number of gas appliance manufacturers in the 19th century and into the 20th century.
