Medallion, with portrait of Adam Smith

This framed portrait medallion of Adam Smith (1723-1790) was made in England in 1791 by J. Tassie. The portrait is made of opaque white glass.

Framed portrait medallion of Adam Smith in profile facing right, in opaque white glass: English, signed and dated 1791, modelled by J. Tassie

Adam Smith was one of the founding fathers of modern economics. In his 'Wealth of Nations', published in 1776, he argued that self-interest, by being part of human nature, had ensured our progression from hunting and herding to capitalism.
