Add to album

This fine white muslin baby robe is embroidered in the style known as Ayrshire needlework. This style was introduced around 1814 and was used for baby robes and caps, for women's collars, dresses and handkerchiefs.

Baby's long robe: Scottish, Ayrshire

Ayrshire needlework was copied from French designs and became a cottage industry for women, mainly in Ayrshire villages. The work was produced for Glasgow wholesalers who exported it worldwide.
