Poisoned arrows

These two poisoned arrows are from Lake Nyasa (now Lake Malawi) in East Africa where the Free Church of Scotland founded the missionary settlement of Livingstonia in 1875.

One of two poisoned arrows: Central Africa, Malawi, near Lake Nyasa

There was much rivalry between the various Presbyterian churches in Scotland to claim the memory of Livingstone. The Church of Scotland founded a mission at Blantyre in the year after Livingstonia.
