This stone hand mill for grinding corn was obtained from Chibisa, a chief from the River Highlands, a centre of intense missionary activity in East Africa.

The Church of Scotland founded the Blantyre mission station in the River Highland area as a memorial to Livingstone, and in response to the Free Church mission at Livingstonia.
