This pair of deerskin moccasins with ankle flaps belonged to Dr John Rae (1813-93).

Dr John Rae was one of many Scots who explored the Arctic. He is particularly remembered for his role in the search for Sir John Franklin's missing team, as well as unique polar survey and exploration work.
