Cradle associated with Mary, Queen of Scots
Add to album

This oak cradle is said to be from Linlithgow Palace in west Lothian. It dates from the mid 17th century.

The cradle has two rockers carved with a crown. The four corner parts are extended into handles for rocking.

On an inlaid silver oval, an inscription states that the cradle is from Linlithgow Palace and belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots. It is thought, however, that the cradle was made around 50 years after Mary's death.
